Every 11 years, the magnetic field of the Sun flips, reversing the polarity. Basically, the magnetic north pole of the Sun becomes the south pole, while the magnetic south pole becomes the north pole. This means that if you had a compass on the Sun, it would suddenly point south!
Confusing, right? Scientists agree; they don’t fully
understand why this happens either.
