Burritos to sushi, even coffee and Coca-Cola are a few menu items for astronauts in space. Still, some will tell you a healthy dose of fresh vegetables would do the body good. This got scientists thinking, since plants are vital to life support systems could it be possible to grow them in space? This led NASA to support the development of experimental tools aimed to start a space garden on the International Space Station. As engineers are designing equipment for plant growth, plant scientists are determining species with the most potential.
